מזהה המשתמש של מערכת PostgreSQL חייב להיות בעל הרשאת כתיבה בכל ספרייה המשמשת כמטרה לכל גיבוי.

ללא קשר לתבנית קובץ הגיבוי שנבחרה, כל בסיס נתונים יגובה לקובץ יחיד ובו הטופס: <שם>. <הרחבה> כאשר <הרחבה> יהיה אחד 'פוסט', 'טאר' או 'sql'.

פקודות שצוינו לרוץ לפני ואחרי הגיבוי מופעלות לפני כל מסד נתונים ואחריו ולא רק פעם אחת ופעם אחרי כל הסט.
