優先等級
每一個程序都會依據特定的優先權執行, 稱為優先等級 (nice level). 一個具有較高優先等級的程序將會得到比較低等級程序較多的 CPU 時間, 也就是會執行的較快. 改變優先等級只會影響到實際的 CPU 時間, 所以只有對高 CPU 用量的程式有意義. 事實上大多數程式的執行期間都在等待某些資源 (例如使用者輸入等), 對於這些程式改變優先等級不會有任何幫助.
